Previously a palace during the reign of Rama V, the National Museum features an extensive display of priceless Thai artifacts from all of Old Siam's key historical periods, including the first example of Thai literature and the Thai alphabet, inscribed by King Ramkhamhaeng on a black stone during the Sukhothai period. Free tours by the National Museum Volunteers group are given in English, French, German and Japanese.
