The Peninsula Academy

China has been at the forefront of the contemporary art world in recent years and Beijing is at the epicenter of this creative output. This exclusive tour will appeal to art lovers or those simply curious to learn more about the burgeoning art scene in Beijing. The Pen Academy has carefully selected six Chinese contemporary artists. Your personal guide will accompany you, via luxury transfer, to a private visit to two art studios in the capital city. There, you will be able to watch the artists at work, ask questions and learn about their techniques and inspiration. A private viewing of the artwork will also be arranged. Afterwards, you will be whisked back to the hotel and for the chance to absorb the incredible art you have seen.

 

About artists:

 

Peng Wei

Peng Wei was born in Chengdu and lives in Beijing. Since 2003, she has participated in many contemporary art exhibitions at home and abroad, with notable solo exhibitions at the Taipei History Museum and Suzhou Museum. Her work often features classical ink and colour painting and uses unconventional materials such as shoes or clothes. Peng's works are collected by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Asian Art Museum, San Francisco; M+, National Art Museum of China; Hong Kong Art Museum; SIGG Collection and the DSL Collection.

 

Cao Yun

Cao Yun was born in 1986 in Hunan Province and now lives and works in Beijing. He studied at the Department of Sculpture, School of Fine Arts, Tsinghua University. In 2011, he established his own studio in Beijing dedicated to the research and creation of contemporary sculpture. In 2017, he joined an exchange study programme at the Sculpture Department of Tokyo University of the Arts. His works are collected by many museums and institutions, such as the China Contemporary Sculpture Museum, Today Art Museum, National Academy of Painting Zhuoda Art Museum, and by many well-known film and television stars and individual collectors. He participated in the Chinese TV shows Dear Inn, Warm New Home and First Collection, and is the initiator of Jizhou International Young Artists’ Creation Camp. He has held many personal exhibitions and participated in exhibitions at China and abroad.

 

Feng Rui

Born in Zhengzhou, Feng Rui now lives in Beijing. She graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts with a master's degree in 2022. Under the guidance of Yu Hong, she has created strong visual impact and aesthetic experiences through vivid colour collocation and decisive composition design. Expressing personal concerns and the experiences of society, she views art through the spirit of image painting and nature painting. Feng Rui’s works are displayed in the Art Gallery on the third floor of  The Peninsula Beijing.

 

Wu Qiong

Wu Qiong is a talented Chinese painter who began studying art at the age of eight. He majored in oil painting at university, and after graduating he continued his studies in Singapore. As part of a young generation of artists born in the 1980s, his international education and exposure of differentartistic influences enables him to seamlessly integrate Chinese and Western styles. Wu Qiong's works are displayed in The Lobby of The Peninsula Beijing and in Jing restaurant.

 

Gao Xiaowu

Gao Xiaowu was born in Fujian Province. He studied sculpture at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and has lived and worked in Beijing ever since. He believes that art should use metaphor rather than intuition, and his works explore themes of kindness and honesty with a sense of humour plus concern and reflection on social issues. His works have been exhibited at Art Basel Miami, Art Hong Kong, Lyon Biennale, Melbourne Art Fair and Singapore Art Fair. His sculptures are collected by the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the White Rabbit Art Foundation in Sydney, Parkview Group, Ekaterina Cultural Foundation, DBS Bank and private collectors.

 

Qin Feng

Qin Feng was born in Xinjiang Province and later moved to the United States and settled in Boston. A Chinese avant-garde, postmodern ink artist, his works are widely collected in museums around the world. Two of Qin Feng’s powerful 5-metre-high ink paintings depicting the sun and moon on a cobalt blue background adorn the main staircase in The Lobby of The Peninsula Beijing. These two paintings are among his largest commissioned works.
