If wellness and fitness are part of your personal goals, our fitness trainers at The Peninsula Chicago are here to help. With weekly fitness classes as well as personal training sessions, you do not need to skip your workout while you are traveling. Learn tips and tricks below from one of our trainers, Jeremy, on how your fitness can progress even on the road.

  1. Start with a fitness goal in mind. Do you want to tone your muscles? Do you want to lose weight? Do you want to gain more energy? Based on your goal, your fitness routine should be customized to you. A lot of fitness classes can be “cookie cutter”; but it is our mission to modify the workout for your goal and your body’s needs.

  2. Focus on the things your body needs most: water and proper nutrition (veggies, fruit, protein). Think about what you would feed your own children when they are growing and developing. Why not treat your body the same way?

  3. Make sure that you celebrate small wins. You shouldn’t expect to hit your goal immediately when you begin a new routine. You want to make sure that your fitness routine is sustainable throughout your life.

  4. Learn what you can do to compliment your current workout routine and take it to the next level. Do you need to add in strength training or cardio if your results have plateaued? Do you need to focus more on nutrition instead of changing your workout plan? This is something that our trainers can help you with while you are staying with us.

  5. Make sure you give your body rest days, at least two per week. Your body needs time to repair its muscles and rest before your next workout. These two days off are just as important as your “on” days.

  6. Steps = activity. Walking and getting your steps in for the day is a great way to focus on movement, especially while traveling. You don’t need to do an intense workout to get your activity in for the day.

  7. Take at least five minutes a day to unplug. Do something for YOU during this time.

Lastly, no matter whether traveling or at home, we recommend finding a community or support system for your workouts. Whether that be joining a gym, getting a running buddy, signing up for a personal trainer, or simply having a friend go to a fitness class with you, this will help you stay motivated and focused on your goals.
