Meet the Curator Céline Barel
Céline Barel grew up in Grasse, France, long considered the world capital of the fragrance industry. She received the Fashion Group International’s Rising Star Award in 2012; subsequently, she went on to create scents for many of the world’s premier perfume brands, including Aesop, Jo Malone, Lancôme, Tory Burch, Coach, Hugo Boss, Calvin Klein, and Jil Sander.
I am honoured to create a bespoke fragrance for The Peninsula Paris – a place whose magic I discovered myself a few years ago while enjoying views over the city from L’Oiseau Blanc restaurant. Not only is the hotel a place of remarkable elegance; its celebration of art, historic architecture, haute cuisine, and glamour also make it quintessentially French. The property is an invitation to a rich conversation – one I hope to spark through my crafted fragrance.
FRAGRANCE NOTES
Rose Damascena, Incense, Labdanum Resin
DESCRIPTION & INSPIRATIONS
Top Notes: Rose Damascena, Orange Oil, Incense Oil
Middle Notes: Labdanum Resin, Pimento Bay Oil, Geranium Oil Egypt
Base Notes: Amber, Ebony Wood, Cashmeran, Cedarwood Oil Atlas
A luxurious and decadent floral spicy top note of damask rose, accented by essences of Labdanum (a fragrant resin from a variety of Mediterranean shrub), and Pimento bay leaves, brightened by the aromatic freshness of geranium while the woodsy ebony and cedarwood notes give the fragrance its bewitching character.
The scent’s highlight ingredient – rose – nods to the flower’s enduring recognition as a symbol of love and romance. It also pays homage to Paris, whose glorious architecture, glamourous cafes and boutiques, abundant art, and picturesque avenues have long given it the (unofficial) nickname “The City of Love.”
“This fragrance celebrates the romance and allure of the city, and also of The Peninsula Paris,” said Céline Barel, the hotel’s Fragrance Curator. “Both form indelible, unforgettable impressions.”
