Jog On: HK’s Best Running Routes

14/01/2018

Wondering how to sustain your workout while visiting Hong Kong? Ditch the treadmill and head outside – this season’s weather is perfect for exploring some of the city’s running routes. Featuring popular paths and spectacular skyline-views, we’ve rounded up the best trails to get your jog on.

Join the glitteratti of HK’s running scene with a session along the popular Bowen Road fitness trail. This much-loved, 3,000m, car-free track threads from Central to Happy Valley and has conveniently located fitness stations along the way. Good for seasoned runners and novices alike, the mostly flat track, half-way up Victoria Peak, also offers rewarding city vistas.

For a waterside workout, head to Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, which stretches from the Star Ferry Pier up to Hung Hom. Popular with urbanites, the flat route is good for a post-work session and generally attracts a young and trendy fitness crowd. Don’t forget to check out the view;  Victoria Harbour, flanked by the city’s majestic skyscrapers, is enough to inspire the laziest couch potatoes.

Nothing makes us want to don our Asics more than fresh sea air, which is why next on the list is the Repulse Bay to Deep Water Bay Boardwalk along Hong Kong island’s southside. As you clock the klicks, you’ll stride past beaches and views of island coves; the route is also blissfully car-free. After you’ve worked up a sweat, cool off with a dip in the sea. Beachtime and body toning? This one gets top marks.

For yet another waterfront jogging fix, the Sai Ying Pun to Admiralty route lets you exercise with a Kowloon view that’s hard to beat. Meandering along the harbourside, this relatively manageable trail (around five kilometres) winds through Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park, past the Central ferry piers and onwards into verdant Tamar Park. Popular with bronzed semi-clad fitness fanatics this flat, even route is also great for beginners.

If you fancy a more challenging jaunt, the running route between Kennedy Town and Aberdeen should be top of the to-do list. Starting at Kennedy Town MTR, the trail runs up Victoria Road before heading down to Aberdeen. A great chance to explore the western side of Hong Kong island, we’ll see you at the finish line.
