Top Fireworks Spots in Hong Kong
From NYE to CNY to National Day, there are few things Hong Kong loves more than a showstopping fireworks extravaganza. As the city celebrates National Day on 1 October, here are the top spots from which to enjoy the patriotic pyrotechnics. Boom!
Felix
For elevated mod European fare to rival the spectacle outside there is only one contender: The Peninsula’s own Felix. Teetering 28 floors above Tsim Sha Tsui, this Starck-struck, glass-fronted aerie is the perfect place to fire off your evening with a whizz, pop, bang. Plate pyrotechnics come courtesy of chef Juan Gomez, while accompanying tipples are mixed by bar star Marko Petrovic.
Sun Terrace
The Sun Terrace offers a spectacular alfresco setting for gala events, banquets, and cocktail receptions. By day, the expansive teak patio, surrounded by manicured greenery, offers panoramic views over Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong Island. By night, it takes in the twinkling lights of the cityscape.
Avenue of Stars
Although selfie-stick central by day, Hong Kong’s answer to the Hollywood Walk of Fame gives way to incomparable front-row vistas of Vicky Harbour. It’s also free and boasts the stunning Island outline as its backdrop, but be warned: the world and his wife will be jostling for a prime posi; for a more peaceful waterside peruse, try the West Kowloon Cultural District.
Tamar Park
Looking north across the harbour, from HK Island, this prettily landscaped, sloping park is home to the Legislative Council. Although the iconic cityscape is behind you, you’re here to see the antics in in the sky, throw down a rug on the clipped green lawns, kick back and enjoy the display on your own leisurely terms.
The Peak
No, silly, not the godawful Sky Terrace. Take a taxi instead to the real Victoria Peak for an unfettered, on-high outlook across all of Hong Kong. Here’s how: locate The Peak Lookout restaurant and to its right are three roads – take Mt Austin Road and climb 20 minutes until you reach the mother of all (firework) views.
