Kick off the Lunar New Year with one of the most spectacular lion and dragon dance performances in town. Lion and dragon dance symbolises prosperity and good luck for the upcoming year, and the annual Chinese New Year performance is one of the most celebrated and respected traditions at The Peninsula Hong Kong. The awakening ritual of nine lions and one dragon will begin on Saturday morning on 10 February 2024.
Featuring nine lions and one dragon, the spectacle commences with a lion-awakening ritual by dotting the eyes of the mighty creatures, followed with a specially choreographed performance. The lion and dragon dance is designed to bring luck, blessings and good fortune to both hotel guests and staff members alike throughout the year.
Each year, The Peninsula Hong Kong is known for staging the most impressive and elaborate performance. To underscore this legacy and continue the time-honoured tradition, the hotel goes to great lengths to ensure an unforgettably spellbinding performance. The troupe of nine lions and one dragon will included three exclusive Peninsula red and gold lions, featuring the depiction of the Chinese character of the hotel’s name on the back of the creatures’ heads. As a nod to the Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited’s Chinese roots and the location of its flagship property, it has become customary for a lion and dragon dance to be performed at the openings of other Peninsula properties around the world.
