The Highline, located on Manhattan's West Side, was originally constructed in the 1930s to lift dangerous freight trains off Manhattan's streets and went out of use in the 1980s. The High Line was resurrected as a 1.45 mile-long green space in 2009, running from the Meatpacking District to the northern edge of Chelsea. The Highline has many cultural attractions as well as integrated architecture and plant life and offers walkers a panorama of the city bustle below.
