The Peninsula Bangkok
The Peninsula Bangkok makes Mid-Autumn Festival a gourmet family celebration with a delicious twist on the legendary Peninsula Egg Custard Mooncakes. Hand-crafted in the Mei Jiang kitchen, each exquisite mooncake is prepared with sustainably sourced organic ingredients. To add to the Mid-Autumn Festival experience, the organic mooncakes can be paired with refined organic tea from Chiang Mai.
Newly introduced for 2019, The Peninsula Bangkok’s cherished festive treats will be prepared with rich, creamy organic milk sourced from dairy cows in Nakorn Ratchasrima province, which are fed organic grass that is high in Omega 3. Organic butter is produced from the same nourishing milk. The Mei Jiang chefs also use organic eggs from free-range hens, organic flour and organic custard powder to create a flavour sensation in every mooncake bite.
The Peninsula’s delectably light egg custard mooncakes have been an eagerly anticipated Mid-Autumn Festive delicacy since they were first baked at The Peninsula Hong Kong in 1986. The Peninsula Bangkok proudly introduced the hand-made treats in 2000, and they proved instantly popular with guests and local residents. Between 2000 and 2018, the hotel sold almost four million mooncakes, which if placed together would span the same distance as trekking up and down Mount Everest 17 times. If the number of mooncakes sold in 2018 alone were stacked vertically, they would reach 13 kilometres into the sky – 86 times higher than The Peninsula Bangkok building, which stands at 151 metres tall.
The Peninsula Bangkok’s organic egg custard mooncakes are now available to purchase – with traditional eight-piece sets beautifully packaged in red, fully compostable gift boxes.
For guests seeking an extraordinary gift choice to share with loved ones during this joyful celebration, a limited-edition selection of just 300 gift sets have been designed by award-winning Thai artist Pichaya O, a pioneer of augmented reality techniques that serve to bring her hand-drawn art to life.
Pichaya O’s pop-up style, eight-piece gift box guides guests through timeless Chinese traditions and folklore. Symbolic creatures, such as bats and butterflies, decorate the box, and creative Thai art is also combined with visually enchanting augmented reality (AR). By using a customised application to scan the box, guests can watch in awe as characters from the legend of Chang’E, the Chinese Goddess of the Moon, are brought to life in front of their eyes. After eating the organic mooncakes, the enchantingly illustrated gift box transforms into a one-of-a-kind jewellery box. Proceeds from each special gift set sale will be donated to create scholarships for underprivileged students to study art at Chulalongkorn University.
Reimagining the world-famous Peninsula mooncakes with organic ingredients closely aligns with the hotel’s multi-year Health & Harmony programme, which inspires guests to live well and eat healthily. Launched by The Peninsula Bangkok in 2017, Health & Harmony draws inspiration from across Thailand and around the world to produce a regularly refreshed menu of exercise classes, spa therapies and nutritious dining options that make a stay at The Peninsula Bangkok a holistic retreat for the body, mind and spirit beside the Chao Phraya River.
The Peninsula Bangkok’s Organic Egg Custard Mooncakes can be purchased from 22 July to 13 September 2019 at The Peninsula Boutique, located at the hotel’s ground level.
