The Peninsula London
A timeless tradition, blending heritage and luxury craftsmanship
The Peninsula London is delighted to announce the launch of its highly sought-after collection of The Peninsula Mooncakes and brand-new Luna Cakes in celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival, one of the most important holidays of the Chinese lunar calendar.
Popularly offered at The Peninsula Hong Kong, mooncakes are a traditional Chinese pastry that are enjoyed during the Mid-Autumn Festival, one of the most important holidays of the Chinese lunar calendar. Customary symbols of prosperity and good fortune, they feature a tender or flaky crust, adorned with intricate patterns and Chinese characters, and are typically filled with dense, sweet pastes such as lotus seed or red bean, often encasing a salted egg yolk that represents the moon.
Available to purchase from The Peninsula Boutique and Café from 1st August, this year’s coveted collection from The Peninsula London features traditional flavours, including the hotel’s signature Mini Egg Custard Mooncakes, a perennial favourite synonymous with The Peninsula brand. Combining expert technique and meticulous attention to detail, each mooncake features a rich egg custard filling, encased in a buttery golden pastry crust.
For those looking to indulge, this year’s collection also features a selection of contemporary flavours, including luxurious Mini Chocolate Egg Custard Mooncakes with Toffee and Brownie, alongside decadent Mini Sea Salt Egg Custard Mooncakes with Macadamia Nuts and Mini Candied Kumquat and Pineapple Mooncakes with mixed nuts. Each individual cake is a work of art, delicately imprinted with The Peninsula’s signature ornate patterns. Beautifully presented in boxes of four, six, and eight (a lucky number in Chinese culture), The Peninsula London mooncakes offer a special way to share good wishes with loved ones.
This year will also see the introduction of limited-edition Luna Cakes at The Peninsula London – a modern take on the classic. Created exclusively for The Peninsula by the hotel’s team of skilled pastry chefs, the Luna Cakes are available in a variety of flavours including Chocolate, Mango, Strawberry and Vanilla.
The Peninsula Hotels have a long-standing tradition of crafting mooncakes that dates back to 1986 in Hong Kong. A masterclass in luxury craftsmanship, the first Mini Egg Custard Mooncakes were created by the culinary team for the hotel’s newly opened Spring Moon restaurant, blending eastern tradition with western techniques to create a unique offering that distinguished its round pastries from the traditional ones enjoyed across the city. Over the decades, the sweet delicacy has become a cherished tradition, and The Peninsula Mooncakes have gained international recognition for their impeccable quality and artistry.
As part of the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations, from 11th - 17th September, The Peninsula London’s fine-dining Cantonese restaurant, Canton Blue, will present an exquisite six-course tasting menu. Guests will indulge in a carefully curated selection of dishes, including lobster and vegetable dumplings, barbecued pork, sautéed Atlantic king prawns, steamed seabass, and Wagyu tenderloin in black bean sauce. The culinary journey concludes with a delightful dessert of red bean rice balls served with sweet rice wine syrup, with a home-made Mini Egg Custard Mooncake petit fours. The menu is priced from £188, with an optional wine pairing available to enhance the dining experience.
The Peninsula London’s Mid-Autumn Festival collection will be available for purchase from 1st August - 17th September from The Peninsula London Boutique and Café. Prices start from £45 for a box of four.
This year’s collection will also be available to purchase from Selfridges UK at the London and Birmingham locations, as well as online at www.selfridges.com
