Turkish glamour arrives at The Peninsula New York's storied rooftop bar
In honor of the opening of its brand-new sister property, The Peninsula Istanbul, The Peninsula New York has temporarily transformed its Salon de Ning rooftop bar into an outpost of alluring East-meets-West style. Between now and March 31, 2023, visitors to the acclaimed Fifth Avenue property will get the chance to sample the flavors, and surrounds, of Türkiye.
Ottoman Tents, Manhattan Skyline
Drawing inspiration from ornate traditional Ottoman tents, the hotel has reimagined the two rooftop domes that have long made Salon de Ning one of Manhattan's most stylish wintertime destinations. Guests will find the domes now dramatically cloaked in swags of richly colored fabric; their seating areas draped in luxe Turkish velvet, intricately patterned throws, and plush cushions; and their floors covered with vintage kilim rugs. In the large dome, a round, communal daybed lavishly upholstered in Turkish textiles takes center stage, beneath hand-hammered copper lanterns suspended from the overhead oculus. In the smaller dome a single oversized, perforated pendant casts intricate shadows around the space.
In keeping with its captivating new setting, Salon de Ning has also introduced a menu of authentic Turkish dishes and Türkiye-inspired drinks for guests to enjoy. The offerings include traditional mezze like dolmas (stuffed grape leaves), and haydari and ezme (dips made, respectively, with herbed yogurt, and spiced tomatoes and peppers). A lineup of special creative cocktails will also be available – including the Turkish Blossom, made with yeni raki, maraschino liqueur, orange bitters, lime juice, raspberry purée and the Turkish Coffee Martini, made with vodka, coffee liqueur, and Turkish coffee.
Overnight guests at The Peninsula New York will have further opportunities to partake in Turkish cuisine, through a selection of Turkish breakfast dishes served at Clement restaurant, and delicious baked baklava delivered as an in-room amenity.
