The Peninsula New York, whose landmark property has occupied one of Manhattan’s grandest addresses since 1904, will undertake a comprehensive interior design refurbishment beginning January 2024. Conceived by New York City-based design firm Bill Rooney Studio, the refreshed design will bring a new sense of airy, polished modernity to the hotel’s guest rooms and public spaces, while simultaneously nodding to its early 20th-century heritage.

The refurbishment, which will take place with minimal disruption to the hotel’s guest experience, will equip all 219 guest rooms and suites – including one of its themed Specialty Suites, the Grand Suite – with new contemporary comforts and high-tech conveniences. The installation of Peninsula’s proprietary in-room technology will provide all accommodations with touch-screen tablets that access a 24-hour digital concierge, bedside panels that control temperature and lighting, and extra outlets and charging stations. Updated lighting, soft furnishings, Quagliotti bed linens and jacquard textiles in an elegant palette of white on white will enhance the sense of clean-lined openness. At the same time, certain design details inspired by New York City’s Art Deco era, including etched glass and molded headboards, will evoke the energetic spirit of the famous metropolis; and a curated selection of original artworks, books, and objets d’art will exude the comforts of a refined, private Manhattan apartment.

The revamped public spaces, including The Lobby, Reception, and The Palm Court, will employ a similar aesthetic, balancing quintessential classic New York style with worldly modern chic. The Palm Court, the property’s elegant central atrium, will feature dramatic new artwork, as well as custom furniture, carpets, and rich wood paneling. The Salon de Ning rooftop bar, meanwhile, will undergo a more radical transformation into “Pen Top”: a gleaming, cosmopolitan aerie whose reimagined interior, featuring a warmly glowing underlit bar, will have the expansive feel of an artist’s loft. The outdoor terrace, with new plantings and furniture, will continue to command the breathtaking skyline views that have made it a decades-long destination for sunset cocktails.

"With the strong rebound of travel to New York, The Peninsula has confirmed its commitment to the city with a substantial investment in our hotel, and this long-awaited full refurbishment of our guestrooms, lobby and rooftop bar," said Samir Ibrahim, Managing Director at The Peninsula New York. "We believe this refreshed design and updated technology, along with the service we pride ourselves in, will further strengthen our position as one of the best in class among New York City hotels."

The refurbishment of The Peninsula New York is scheduled to be completed by September 2024. For more information, contact the hotel at +1 212 956 2888 or pnymarketing@peninsula.com
