Inventive Chinese design is transforming the global fashion scene, and Lu Kun epitomises the rapid rise of Chinese couture. The Shanghai-born designer has been nicknamed “The Chinese Galliano” and his clothes have graced the leading catwalks and fashion magazines worldwide. Guests enjoy The Modern Shanghai Chic Academy programme will be chauffeur-driven to meet the Shanghai-born fashion guru at his design house.

Lu Kun will conduct a private guided tour of his studio, and reveal exclusive insights about his haute couture collections that are inspired by personal interpretations of classic and contemporary Shanghai lifestyle trends. During the tour, Lu Kun will showcase some of his most famous clothing creations – and discuss the style secrets of the stars that have worn them. Afterwards, guests can chat to Lu Kun and ask questions about his opinions on the "Made in Shanghai" label as an embodiment of Chinese haut monde, and more generally about the changing influences of fashion and style in China and worldwide.

Savour a traditional Shanghai breakfast, including pan-fried Chinese crepes and steamed sticky rice with pork floss and preserved vegetables. 

After breakfast, depart The Peninsula Shanghai in the hotel’s bespoke Rolls-Royce Phantom for the short drive to Lu Kun’s studio in Hongkou district.

Meet the Designer

Lu Kun will greet you at his studio, and seasonal snacks and refreshments will be served. He will then give a brief introduction about the modern history of Shanghai, and the classic and contemporary lifestyle trends of its residents.

Shanghai Chic

During a private audience at Lu Kun’s studio, the superstar couturier will reveal the inspirations for his new haute couture lines. He will then share his design concepts, provide a tour of his studio and demonstrate how his signature fashions are influenced by his personal interpretations of Shanghai life. 

Lu Kun will also showcase some of his most famous clothing creations – and the style secrets of the stars that have worn them to walk down the catwalk and in photo-shoots for the world’s most influential fashion magazines.
