In lieu of this new ordinance, The Peninsula Shanghai is no longer able to offer smoking guest rooms while all indoor areas including all restaurants have also been re-designated as non-smoking area.

Deep purple and French navy décor pays homage to nautical history at the Compass Bar. The centrepiece is a to-scale replica of the Shenking 2, an historic 1920s Huangpu River boat on which Sir Michael Kadoorie, Chairman of The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited, arrived in Shanghai with his family as a child.
