ART IN RESONANCE
Since its founding, The Peninsula has remained committed to promoting and enhancing the rich and vibrant cultural landscape of each destination city our hotels call home.
Originally introduced in 2019, Art in Resonance is our commission-based art programme designed to shine a light on important emerging and mid-career artists with the funding, curatorial support and logistical capabilities that allow them to produce significant new public artworks.
We celebrate our passion for the arts and aim to provide guests and visitors with a truly memorable experience that goes beyond offering a venue for the display of art.

Contemporary Art at The Peninsula

The Peninsula Manila
Showcasing hundreds of paintings, photographs and sculptures, The Peninsula Manila is a stunning destination for art. The hotel’s collection has been assembled over the course of nearly five decades, creating a dramatic juxtaposition of old and new notably those of National Artists Napoleon Abueva and Ang Kiukok.. Adding a contemporary edge, works by emerging Filipino artists brings fresh energy and imagination.
In 2023, The Peninsula Manila featured artist Mano Gonzales for its "Art in Resonance" series with an installation that questioned the Philippine diaspora. In the 2024 iteration, Philippine National Artist for Visual Arts Benedicto “BenCab” Cabrera unveiled eight site-specific tapestries at The Lobby based on his Sabel and Larawan paintings.

The Peninsula Hong Kong
A local precursor to Art in Resonance, the ‘Love Art at The Peninsula Hong Kong’ initiative launched in 2014, and was centred around public art and experiences aiming to enrich and celebrate Hong Kong’s burgeoning arts scene. Through the years, the initiative provided hotel guests and the public the opportunity to see works by some of the world’s most exciting artists in a unique and heritage-rich setting.

The Peninsula Shanghai
The Peninsula Shanghai’s world-class art collection comprises more than 200 original artworks, including paintings, sculptures, murals, and decorative furnishings. These pieces have been created – and in some cases, specially commissioned for the hotel – by some of the leading luminaries in the contemporary and classical art spheres, both within Greater China and beyond.
One of the most prominently displayed artworks in the hotel is The Curl, a striking sculptural piece by Ben Jakober and Yannick Vu. The six-metre-tall work, which takes the shape of a graceful ascending spiral, rises from the base of the stairwell in The Rose Ballroom. Made from stainless steel and encased in steel mesh, the sculpture’s entire surface is adorned crystal bead strands, made from more than 3,000 circular Swarovski Strass crystals. Each of these individual crystals features 34 distinct facets, which gives the piece a reflective, illuminated shimmer.

The Peninsula Beijing
The Peninsula Beijing’s abundant art collection includes more than 800 paintings, sculptures and works of photography. Highlights include two five-metre-high paintings by Xinjiang-born painter Qin Feng depicting the sun and moon, which symbolise peace and spirituality in Chinese culture. The paintings intend to bestow good fortune on the hotel, and all who enter. The Art Gallery on the third floor of the hotel exhibits modern works by Chinese and global artists.
As well as exhibiting the best of Chinese art, The Peninsula Beijing is committed to nurturing emerging artist talent though its local iterations of Art in Resonance. In partnership with leading contemporary art museums, such as the Museum of Contemporary Art Beijing, the hotel provides aspiring artists with a residency in a bespoke studio where guests may visit them as they work. Artists then have access to a dedicated exhibit gallery in the hotel to showcase their work.
The Peninsula Academy - Art Studio Visit programme is an exclusive tour to the art studios where guests are able to watch the artists at work, ask questions and learn about their techniques and inspiration.

The Peninsula Tokyo
The Peninsula Tokyo boasts an impressive art collection featuring 1,000 works by 60 different artists, nearly all of whom are Japanese. A standout piece in the hotel’s lobby is Lying Dragon Gate, a striking bamboo sculpture by Keisen Hama that commands attention.
As part of its Art in Resonance initiative, the hotel regularly hosts exhibitions celebrating local art, with one of its latest being The Peninsula Tokyo Ukiyo-e. Ukiyo-e, a traditional Japanese art form, offers a vibrant glimpse into Japan’s artistic history. It typically depicts contemporary trends, Kabuki actors, and scenes from daily life, and became widely popular as both a source of entertainment and a reflection of the times. For this exhibition, three original ukiyo-e works were created, capturing both Edo-period and modern-day characters. These pieces blend the past with the present, set against the backdrop of The Peninsula Tokyo.

The Peninsula New York
The art displayed at The Peninsula New York reflects a carefully curated selection of works from internationally known artists. Past exhibits at the hotel have featured pieces by Andy Warhol, Francesco Clemente, Keith Haring, and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
For its latest exhibition, The Peninsula New York unveiled a new installation of illuminated sculptural works by acclaimed Chilean artist Iván Navarro. Created with neon, incandescent, and fluorescent lights, his works take inspiration from the celestial sphere – as with Nebula X and Nebula XI, both mounted in the hotel’s Palm Court, which depict clouds where stars are born; or Constellations (South) and Large Eclipse (Yellow), in the hotel’s reception area, which drew the viewer into the realm of heavenly bodies and astronomical events. On this occasion, HOME, Navarro’s piece from the Art in Resonance collection, was also featured as a centrepiece to the exhibition.

The Peninsula London
Works from both emerging and established artists are equally championed at The Peninsula London. For its permanent collection, the hotel commissioned original works from 40 student artists at The Royal Drawing School – all depicting British landscapes in a variety of styles and media. These are displayed in guest rooms and gathering spaces throughout the property.
Other notable works at The Peninsula London include Floods, a mixed-media painting by Kevin Harman that uses discarded double-glazed windows and found household paints to unexpectedly beautiful effect; and numerous Asian-inspired pieces which grace the rooms of the hotel’s Canton Blue restaurant. One such installation, Many Exquisite Things by painter Dean Home, comprises a collection of intricately painted blue and white porcelain pieces – a creative nod to traditional Chinese ceramics.

The Peninsula Paris
The art collection at The Peninsula Paris includes 185 distinct works by artists from around the world, which provide a contemporary contrast to the classical interiors. Major pieces that grace the hotel’s public spaces include Dancing Leaves, an 800-piece installation of hand-blown Lasvit crystal leaves; Moon River, a marble sculpture from Xavier Corberó that evokes a risen full moon and brings the breeze of the River Seine; and The World Belongs to Me, a mirrored, rainbow-ensconced work from Ben Jakober and Yannick Vu. Other pieces from Patricia Erbelding and Nathalie Decoster adorn guest rooms and suites.
In its second iteration, Art in Resonance was hosted at the hotel, featuring the works of Elise Morin, Saya Woolfalk, and Iván Navarro.

The Peninsula Bangkok
By connecting with the vibrant artistic traditions of its home city, and aligning with major arts festivals such as the annual Bangkok Art Biennale, The Peninsula Bangkok has developed a reputation as one of Bangkok’s premier hubs of contemporary art and culture.
The hotel has showcased a plethora of thought-provoking installations, including, most recently,
Flowers, River & Possibilities, from acclaimed Thai artist and floral ambassador Sakul Intakul – which used the theme of flowers to spotlight the distinctive cultural enclaves that extend along the length of Bangkok’s majestic Chao Phraya River. Another recent multimedia exhibit, Step, Step, Hops! from artist and educator Sirithorn Srichalakom, offered guests an engaging, interactive opportunity to discover – and experience – diverse dance and movement styles from around the world.
