New York Shopping Guide: Meatpacking District
15/11/2023
Forget dead meat and deadbeats, Meatpacking is one of Manhattan’s hottest retail and dining destinations. Here’s where to shop n’ flop in MePa...
Fire off your foray at the Chelsea Market, a former Nabisco factory (where the Oreo was invented, no less), and now a fabulous multi-brand food hall touting everything from tacos and lobster rolls to popsicles and fine wine.
Skipping up to West 14th Street, let the shopathon commence at UK-bred brand All Saints, repping floaty women’s separates and elegant, clean-cut basics, followed by Stacey Bendet’s NYC gamechanger Alice + Olivia, next door at #431. Guy n’ gal label stable Jeffrey is at #449 with its only Big Apple outpost and a killer selection of heels.
Pecky Becky? A full-blown carb fest beckons at High Street on Hudson on – duh! – Hudson Street. This buzzy little Philly import serves all-day brekkie plates, glam-wiches and stacks of signature pastries – don’t forsake the sinful red-eye Danish.
Alternatively, continue your retail trawl, sashaying south on Washington Street for the mega Diane von Furstenberg mothership at #874, and Cali denim doyenne Paige, opposite at #869.
Suitably spritzed, make a left into West 13th Street to get evening-ready with a swift blowout at #415 hair haven Bumble & Bumble (gents can scoot over to Fellow Barber on Horatio Street, should they so wish).
Culture vultures are in luck as the Whitney Museum of American Art is but a quick skip away. This architectural bunker houses over 18,000 C.20th American artworks from the likes of O'Keeffe, Warhol and Pollock. If the dinner gong sounds, sup at seasonal onsite stunner Untitled, or for a more informal affair, squeeze your way into vibey Med-tinged Santina, tucked under the High Line. Buonissimo!
