Aston Martin Returns to The Peninsula Hong Kong on a Secret Mission

27/09/2021
In continuation of its successful collaboration with luxury British carmaker Aston Martin – and its longstanding association with the world’s finest classic motorcars– The Peninsula Hong Kong will welcome a dashing visitor to its legendary property this autumn: the Aston Martin DB5 Goldfinger Continuation originally featured in the 1964 film “Goldfinger.”

The timelessly designed DB5 will be on display in The Lobby of The Peninsula Hong Kong between 30 September and 29 October 2021. Accompanying it will be an automotive photography exhibit, specially curated by Aston Martin, in the hotel’s first-floor gallery. In addition, the themes of international glamour and elegant craftsmanship will be further enhanced by the appearance of two other luxury brands at the property – both well-documented favourites of the world’s best-known fictional secret agent: Champagne Bollinger and Globe-Trotter luggage.

The DB5’s arrival at The Peninsula Hong Kong marks the continuation of the property’s association with Aston Martin. In May 2021, the hotel hosted a charity auction by Bonhams, in support of regional wildlife and environmental conservation. The highlight of the event was the auction of an Aston Martin Gulf Blue Vantage Heritage Edition sports car – one of only 12 in the world – donated by Markus F. Jebsen, former Chairman of MF Jebsen International Limited, the exclusive dealer of Aston Martin in Hong Kong and Macau. The car’s final sale price of HK$1.2 million was subsequently bequeathed to various ecosystem-restoration and endangered species-conservation projects, among them ecological programmes run by Hong Kong’s Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden (KFBG).

Guests of The Peninsula Hong Kong can enjoy Aston Martin’s return to the hotel beginning on 30 September, when the DB5 Goldfinger Continuation will take centre stage in the grand lobby. Until 29 October, visitors can take in the details of the car’s remarkable gadgetry, as well as the first-floor photo exhibit curated by Aston Martin that celebrates automotive excellence. At The Verandah foyer, visitors can also take their own photos against a special themed backdrop presented by Champagne Bollinger, whose iconic winery has been producing fine Champagne for nearly two centuries; and can discover Globe-Trotter’s exclusively designed, limited-edition trolley case – a must-have for every international man – or woman – of mystery.

Diners at The Verandah Café and The Lobby will find several menu items specially highlighted for pairing with Bollinger Special Cuvée NV. They may opt for The Verandah Café’s extravagant Seafood on Ice platter (HK$1,088 for two), which perfectly balances the nuanced, fruit-forward flavours of an optional glass Bollinger Special Cuvée NV (HK$220), or The Lobby’s signature Peninsula Afternoon Tea (HK$438 per person; HK$778 for two), with the Champagne pairing perfectly with signature teatime treats such as fine pastries, and scones served with clotted cream and jam.
