A Celebration of Italian Cuisine and Culture at The Peninsula Hong Kong

700 years ago, famed Italian explorer Marco Polo embarked on a journey to China, driven by a desire to unravel the mysteries of foreign cultures and traditions. One of the era’s most famous mercanti (merchants), Marco Polo also became the premier cultural ambassador between the two countries – which have subsequently continued their exchange of art, literature, technology, and cuisine. 

In honour of this centuries-long cultural dialogue, The Peninsula Hong Kong is delighted to announce a special festival held in collaboration with Mercato Gourmet, Hong Kong’s leading Italian culinary retail brand. This showcase, which will take place between 14 June and 31 July 2024 at the Grande Dame, will coincide with the 10th anniversary of Mercato Gourmet’s launch by visionary chef Giandomenico “Gianni” Caprioli. 

Created with support from the Italian Trade Agency and Consulate General of Italy in Hong Kong, the event will spotlight the magnificent culinary traditions that connect the European and Asian continents. Guests can experience these through a series of gastronomic offerings at The Peninsula Hong Kong’s legendary restaurant venues – including Felix, Sun Terrace and The Verandah.

Italian Culinary Mastery at Felix
For two nights only, on 14 and 15 June 2024, guests can indulge in a culinary extravaganza as Felix welcomes renowned Sicilian Chef Riccardo La Perna, hailing from the Michelin-starred 8½ Otto e Mezzo Bombana Macau. He will join Felix’s talented Chef de Cuisine Aurélie Altemaire to curate a sumptuous experience menu that showcases the finest Italian cuisine. 

The sensational six-course menu, featuring an exquisite selection of Mediterranean delicacies such as Lightly Cooked Sicilian Gambero Rosso with Burrata Foam and Gambero Rosso Head Emulsion; Italina Oscietra (from Caviar Giaveri) Tart with Yellow Tail Crudo, Fennel and Prosecco Beurre Blanc and Slow Cooked Italian Spring Chicken with Gambero, Tropea Onion, Heads and Wings Jus

While they savour these masterful culinary creations, guests will also be treated to an enchanting live performance of timeless Giacomo Puccini arrangements, sung by celebrated soprano Phoebe Tam. These melodies will transport guests to the heart of Italy, further enhancing the superb dining experience and Felix’s panoramic views over Victoria Harbour.

Mediterranean Alfresco Night at The Sun Terrace 
On 21 June 2024, The Peninsula Hong Kong guests are invited to escape to a starlit night of culinary delight: a one-night-only Mediterranean alfresco dining experience at the expansive Sun Terrace.

A tantalising array of buffet-style Mediterranean specialities will greet diners at this special event – including tempting barbecue-grilled meats and seafood, and delectable creations from the salad and pasta station. All will be accompanied by mood-setting DJ music.

Mediterranean Alfresco Night at The Sun Terrace will begin at 5:30 pm with a cocktail reception, followed by dinner at 7:00 pm. Priced at HKD 2,888* per person, the event includes access to a beverage counter, offering a selection of refreshing cocktails and mocktails. Free-flow beverage options will also be available for an additional charge.
