LiLi brings lavish Chinese New Year celebration to Paris

With gastronomic Cantonese fare, festive music, and a traditional lion dance performance, The Peninsula Paris chic Chinese restaurant welcomes the Year of the Rabbit.

Throughout Greater China, Lunar New Year is welcomed as the calendar’s most important holiday. Families and friends gather joyfully for the occasion to share special dishes and treats, exchange lai see – small, cash-filled red packets that symbolise prosperity for the coming year – and enjoy lively music and dance performances together.

This year, LiLi, the City of Light’s most alluring Cantonese restaurant, invites Parisian diners and hotel guests to take part in these festive celebrations. On Saturday, January 21, 2023, LiLi will host a special “Joy of Reunion” evening that ushers in the Year of the Rabbit in elegant Peninsula style.

A Sumptuous New Year Feast

In honour of the Year of the Rabbit, LiLi’s chef, Tak Lau Yuen will offer a magnificent 8-course set menu of Lunar New Year favourites for dinner on 21 January. This “Joy of Reunion” meal begins with an assortment of starters selected by Chef Tak, followed by Atlantic salmon served in the Lo Hei tradition – a dish that symbolises good luck and abundance. Next, a selection of dim sum will be served (including abalone, Carabineros shrimp, vegetables, and truffles), followed by a traditional Chinese soup, sautéed lobster, fillet of beef with garlic and chilli sauce, and Chinese noodles topped with braised crab. A selection of Cantonese desserts – including sticky-rice pearl with ginger syrup, red-bean brioche, and nian gao, a steamed sticky-rice cake that is traditionally enjoyed during Lunar New Year.

Diners who partake in the feast will also receive lai see from LiLi. A few lucky guests will find surprises inside their red packets.

A selection of these festive dishes will be available on LiLi’s lunch and dinner menus, from Tuesday January 24 to Saturday January 28, 2023.

Traditional Lion Dance

Highlight of LiLi’s Lunar New Year celebration will be a performance of the magnificent Lion Dance – a custom meant to welcome good fortune for the coming year. Wearing ornate lion costumes, a group of dancers will execute lion-like movements and acrobatic motions to the accompaniment of live cymbal and drumbeats.

Following the captivating show, LiLi’s DJ will ensure the festive atmosphere continues, by spinning high-energy music from 7:30 to 11:30 pm.
