For one week in October, guests and hotel staff alike will be invited to contribute to a giant ‘Colouring Wall’ created by the artist in The Peninsula Art Gallery

The Peninsula Beijing brings a splash of colour to our 30th anniversary celebrations by welcoming Russian artist Max Goshko-Dankov (MGDankov) to produce a birthday-themed ‘Colouring Wall’ installation. The charismatic artist will create a special tapestry live at the hotel’s art gallery from 8 to 14 October. Upon completion, the multi-coloured artwork will be exhibited at the Art Gallery until the first quarter of 2020.

Local art fans and hotel guests can watch Max in action as he handcrafts a bold and beautiful ‘Colouring Wall’ at The Peninsula Art Gallery, with certain spaces purposefully left blank to enable long-standing hotel staff and VIP guests to contribute by colouring-in the spaces. Once finished, Max will officially present the collaborative installation at a cocktail party in The Peninsula Art Gallery.

Born in Smolensk, Russia, Max, also known as MGDankov, is an unusual contemporary artist who explores global themes through bright, colourful and abstract methods. He fell in love with art at a young age, entering Art School aged 12. After graduating, he worked at a Moscow PR company, where he met artists, designers and celebrities such as Paco Rabanne, Carolina Herrera, Philippe Starck, Daphne Guiness, Antonio Banderas, Marc Jacobs, Lea Seydoux. This inspired him to redefine his own artistic style.

Max art career began in 2007, and he participated in the first and second Biennale of Young Artists in 2008 and 2010. In 2016, he published a best-selling colouring book in Russia. He subsequently toured his interactive ‘Colouring Wall’ art concept to major cities around the world, including Berlin, Dubai, Miami, Moscow and Tokyo. In 2017, he produced the Sunny Park in Beijing ‘Colouring Wall’ at Chaoyang Park, and in 2018 he featured in a group project at World Art Dubai. His solo exhibitions include Art Space Dacha, Moscow (2007), Perso – Art Basement (2015), Perso - Jumeirah, Dubai (2016) and Gilyarovsky Center, Museum of Moscow (2018).

Extending his electrifying art style into a new realm, Max Goshko-Dankov has partnered with several major brands, including MINI, Kiehl’s and Levi’s, to create advertisements, promotions and packaging. Since 2018, he has been an art ambassador for Chinese telecoms giant Huawei.
