Junjiro Yamashita

Director of Corporate Affairs

Tokyo is a city in constant flux, and nobody understands its mercurial nature better than Junjiro. Born into a family with business roots dating back to the 19th century, he had every opportunity to immerse himself into his family’s legacy. Instead, Junjiro sought something new. Something different. A change from the family lineage and a new form of recognition.

Coming of age during the economic boom of the 1980s, he started his career in finance just as the bubble burst in the early ‘90s. After ten years of successfully weathering the storm, he no longer found joy in the fast paced world of banking.

Much like the bustling metropolis where he was born and raised, Junjiro is motivated by progress and betterment. Feeding off of the high-octane nature of his birthplace, Junjiro lives a life driven by a sense of achievement in overcoming challenging feats. Climbing the mountain ranges that skirt the great city of Tokyo, marathon running, rugby and motorsports fuel his quest for growth. New heights, ambitious goals and his pursuit of greatness have led him to The Peninsula, a move to hospitality that finally allowed him to realise himself.

Here at The Peninsula Tokyo, Junjiro serves as a liaison between the hotel and the business community at large. His perspective allows him to bridge many gaps – foreign and local, traditional and modern. Defining the possibilities for the greater future of hospitality in his city, his mission is clear: to ensure that, as The Peninsula Tokyo evolves with the city, it remains an integral part of the local community and a pinnacle of Tokyo's commitment to excellence.
